Dear all,

Here’s Una’s abstract:

In this short talk I will discuss the Doctor Who episode ‘Gridlock’, and pull out some of writer Russell T Davies’ main themes in this story: secularism, resistance, and crab monsters.

CUDWS Episode Screening (And Formal/Varsity signup!): Black Orchid/The Unicorn and the Wasp – 05/05, 7pm – Newnham

Greetings Whovians,

Welcome to Week Two, in which we delve into some historical episodes, a dying (Vespi-)form

Episode Screening: Black Orchid/The Unicorn and the Wasp – Saturday 5th May – Newnham JCR

The Fifth Doctor dashes about in the first purely historical serial in ages. Then we get our usual fix of Mr Tennant and Ms Tate, charming and delightful as ever.

We’re not entirely sure which of Newnham’s countless JCRs this is at, but we’ll be meeting at the plodge to make sense of this conundrum… Be there!

A Weekend of Who – Formal at Emma (12th May), Varsity Quiz at Oxford (13th May)

We’re looking to confirm numbers for the first ever WhoSoc formal at Emma (St Cedd’s College itself!) – spots are limited, so do fill out the Google form as soon as you can! We’ll be dining with our guest speaker for the term – the wonderful Una McCormack – details of the talk will be disseminated shortly!

On the same form, do let us know if you’d like to take part in the Varsity Quiz this year! It’s always good fun – we’ll get lunch with our Oxonian counterparts and get a brief tour of the city!

Here’s the form: https://goo.gl/forms/qJ06Fc63YMPyJ9rx1

Shada Re-enactment!

Finally, we’ve been approached by an entity about re-enacting this scene from Shada: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bm7LQvT_5C0

An entity attached to the University, sadly, not an alien one. The Digital Communications team at the Office of External Affairs (a name almost Gallifreyan in how long-winded it is) are looking to promote the joys of student life at Cambridge!

So if you’re interested in being in that choir (or if you’re part of a choir who actually wants to take part), or being in the scene in any capacity, do reply to this email!

(Don’t worry, I will be making a fool of myself on this project also. Think of it as a sequel to WhoSoc’s appearance on TV earlier this term: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTPyI-L9Bys)

Enjoy the rest of your week, everyone!
