Among the older colleges of the University, St Cedd’s aims to prepare its students for the future by learning from the past and studying the threads bridging the two.
Our nameless founder, known only by his title as the Fourth Baronet of Cambridge, envisaged an institution dedicated to the worldly education of new clergymen – inspired by the breadth of learnedness in St Cedd himself.
Today, the College has expanded its curriculum whilst retaining the drive to fuse the far reaches of knowledge. Our students are encouraged to explore beyond their chosen tripos for their own betterment, whilst our fellows are renowned polymaths.
Of great pride to the College, is its monopoly on the Chair of Regius Professor of Chronology, which has been held by one of our esteemed fellows since the seat was established by HM George III in 1819.
Notable alumni include Sir Isaac Newton, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Eric Ritchie Jr and, in more recent times, Harold Saxon.
